Pictures from an outing to Green Island Gardens, near Colchester. This is a 20 acre,
RHS award winning site including tearooms and a plant sale area.
In June we had our summer club outing. This year we went to Green Island Gardens near Colchester in Essex. We were joined by members of our local U3A and friends and family of our members. Green Island gardens was the winner of the RHS partner gardens in 2024.
The weather was very hot as this summer has been for several months, but luckily there are a lot of trees at Green Island providing plenty of shade. It’s name reflects the design of the garden as it has lots of Island beds. There is a small courtyard garden with Japanese influences which is very colourful. There are lots of interesting shrubs, trees and perennial plants. Many of these are available to purchase in their small nursery.
We had arranged to have lunch together and a marquee was set out for us.
I think it is fair to say we have mixed reviews of the venue. The owners were a bit officious and not exactly welcoming. But every garden is another experience and adds to the variety and everyone has different styles that appeal to them.
