Speaker's List 2024

02 February Alec White (Zoom) from Primrose Hall Peonies will be talking on 'How to plant, grow and propagate peonies'. This talk is in association with the Tender Shoots Garden Club network.

01 March Nina Lewis, Gardening of the Future. In Unity Hall. This popular local speaker returns with a very topical talk on 'Gardening in the Future'.

5 April  Cherith Lowry will be talking about 'The Gibberd Garden' in Harlow. As well as the story of the garden, we will also hear about the life and work of Sir Frederick Gibberd, an important twentieth century figure.








3 May  Guy Deakins in a topical and fascinating talk 'Schrodinger’s Garden', we will learn how our brains perceive gardens and how gardening and gardens can enhance our mental and physical wellbeing. All set, remarkably, against the findings of Erwin Schrodinger’s 'cat' experiment!








7 June Paolo Arrigo 'Italy from seed to plate'. We look forward to an entertaining journey around Italy in vegetables. Paolo represents the 7th generation of the oldest family-run seed company in the world, 'Franchi Seeds of Italy', which was established in 1783. The company specialises in endangered, heritage, ethical and regional varieties with provenance and lost flavours.

5 July  Andrew Babicz. Another speaker new to the club. From Sissinghurst to Kew and from Levens Hall to Harlow Carr, Andrew will be speaking about them all in his illustrated talk on the “Great Gardens of Great Britain”. He will also be telling us which has the best tea and cakes!

2 August  Jacqueline Aviolet. We welcome Jacqueline back to the club to explain all we need to know to be successful in growing asters in her talk 'Asters (Symphyotrichums) - history & propagation'. She will also be bringing plants to sell.

6 September  Andy Sands is an internationally renowned photographer of British wildlife. He will be giving his illustrated talk on Ancient Trees & Woodland which was postponed from last year.

4 October Tom Cole’s talk on 'Vertical gardening' will show how we might use plants to give height and add another dimension to the garden by using Climbers and Wall Shrubs.

1 November AGM - followed by the ever popular Quiz

6 December  Christmas Socialan evening of socialising and entertainment to start the Christmas season in style.
